NikeGrip Strike Light Review

Nike are the masters of advertising. They could get you to buy anything, maybe even air. Oh right, they already did that. Bad jokes aside, Nike has so many different gimmicks, but actually, most of them work really well. That’s what we’re talking about today, with the NikeGrip Strike Light sock. It has an extremely unique feel and grip, which might be a little bit strange for some. Today, we’re reviewing the grip, comfort/fit, and durability.

THE GRIP

The Strike Light is a really interesting sock. The grip is strange, to say the least. Unlike socks like the Pure Grip Socks Pro and the adidas Alphaskin Traxion, the Strike Light is extremely thin. But although the sock feels like there is nothing on your foot, it locks you into your shoe very well.

The most outstanding factor of the NikeGrip Strike Light is the way that it feels like it melts on your foot. When I tested it, I was worried that it would have no grip at all, but I was satisfied with the amount of grip and stability the Strike Light provided.

With that being said, the grip on the Strike Light still just isn’t up to par with some of its other competitors, namely the adidas Alphaskin Traxion, Pure Grip Socks Pro, and TRUsox. While the sock feels like it’s part of your foot, grip socks still should have a lot more grip than human feet.

In the Make The Cut test, the Strike Light performed at an average level. In this test, we go through a series of agility and soccer tests. We look for how many times the sock creases or slides in the shoe.

Our first test, sprinting at full speed and coming to a complete stop, had 20 reps. The Strike Light creased 3 times, which is 15%. This is a respectable number but not anything really special. It was okay but it tended to crease in the midfoot.

In the second test, where we one-touched passed a soccer ball against a wall 100 times, the Nike sock creased 3% of the time which isn’t bad at all, but it did have some minor heel slippage that was quite annoying.

In the third test, where I jumped 1 yard laterally 50 times, the sock creased 4 times or 8%. It tended to shift the most when I jumped extremely hard and put lots of force into my landing, but other than that, the performance was excellent, besides some minor slippage during the tests.

THE COMFORT/FIT

Nike has made an excellent sock, in terms of comfort. As I mentioned above, the sock becomes an extension of your foot, which is great for the fit and comfort. It feels like walking barefoot, which is a sensation that most will enjoy.

The material knit of the Strike Light is excellent, nothing short of what I expect from the highest-grossing sports brand in the world. It is extremely thin, but still pretty durable. The knit feels like the equivalent of Flyknit for socks. In case you didn’t know, Flyknit is the material that Nike uses for a lot of its shoes like the Epic React series. The comfort and feel of the sock is probably the best part of it.

The fit of the NikeGrip Strike Light is excellent. The material hugs your foot snugly and the part of the sock that goes up your leg is very compressive. A lot of socks I’ve tested have had the tendency to slide down my leg, but the Strike Light contradicts that with its outstanding compression.

There is a little band at the top of the sock that does wonders for the fit of the sock, preventing it from sliding down your leg. The knit running up your sock is the same as the one on the foot and it felt just as amazing when I tested it.

THE DURABILITY

As I’ve already mentioned, the NikeGrip Strike Light is really thin. But the most surprising thing about this sock is how durable it is. I expected the grip to wear thin after a month of use. The grip is still going decently strong after 2 months, which I didn’t expect at all.

While there are some sweat stains and wear marks, the sock still looks like it did out of the box. In play testing, the performance is still similar to the new sock, but with some expected stains and sweat marks. Sometimes, like most socks, I feel almost like my foot is falling asleep in certain areas of the foot because of the wear and tear.

A STRANGE BUT EFFECTIVE SOCK

The NikeGrip Strike Light is a really interesting sock, specializing in giving that extremely barefoot feeling, akin to speed boots in the cleat category. This is an amazing sock to wear if you like the speed boot feeling, and it lasts surprisingly long.
