TRUsox 3.0 Midcalf Socks Review

The pinnacle of socks, without question, are TRUsox. They are the pioneer of sports socks, without question, leading to innovations and inspiring other socks. Today we’re reviewing the original grip sock in grip, comfort/fit, and durability and seeing if they’re still the best in the game.

Here’s an article about the history of TRUsox if you want to learn more.

THE GRIP

TRUsox’s thing is their grip. They have suede elements in the inside and outside of the socks, which feel great. They prevent slipping and sliding in the shoe, and they are surprisingly comfortable, compared to the silicon sticky counterparts.

I found the grip to be excellent, and I think that the reason for that is because of the grip elements on the inside of the sock. They keep me locked into the sock, and then the sock locks into the shoe. They feel really nice and smooth on foot, while also giving a sandpapery feel that feels like it is keeping you from slipping.

In the Make the Cut test, where we go through a grueling gauntlet of agility drills, lateral cuts, and suicides, TRUsox performed exactly how I expected them to.

Our first test, sprinting at full speed and coming to a complete stop, had 20 reps. The TRUsox bunched up 3 times, equating to 15%, which is a respectable number. I did want a little but better performance but these socks are multiple weeks old, so it is fine.

In the second test, where we one-touched passed a soccer ball against a wall 100 times, TRUsox performed extremely well, with slippage only occurring on 2 passes.

In the third test, where I jumped 1 yard laterally 50 times, slippage only happened on 2 jumps, which is 4%. I was very pleased with the performance on this test.

Overall, TRUsox performed exceptionally well in the patent-pending (not really) Make the Cut Test, with one of the best scores that I have reviewed.

COMFORT/FIT

The most surprising thing about TRUsox is how comfortable it is. The suede elements on it feel so much better than silicon. Although they don’t feel as good as an everyday sock, while playing sports, nothing rivals it. The suede is naturally soft and is not rough against your skin, like other socks.

On the other hand, the fit of Trusox leaves a little to be desired. The socks don’t have foot specific sizing so there is a little excess material on the toes and that feels uncomfortable at the front of the shoe.

TRUsox’s thing is the grip, so it is understandable that the fit is not the greatest. But, I do wish that the compression of the socks was a little bit better, seeing as the part of the sock that goes up your ankle is not tight at all. It slides down a little while training, but I think it is fine because the main focus of TRUsox is the fit.

DURABILITY

TRUsox might seem like the perfect sock, but there are some downsides. First the hefty price tag. They retail for $50. While that might seem like a huge price for socks, with it being more  expensive than most t-shirts, it is still worth the price if you are a serious athlete looking for improvements in gear.

The second thing where TRUsox is lacking is the durability. One might expect for elite, long-lasting durability on a $50 sock, but after just a few washes the suede element started to come off of the sock. While they didn’t fall off until a few more washes, it still was a little disappointing. I recommend not putting them in the dryer because that will make the suede elements come off even faster.

When you wash TRUsox many times, the grip elements on the bottom tend to stiffen up and feel a little crusty at first until you start to move a little. This is not a huge factor but I just wanted to mention it for you to know.

THE BEST ON THE MARKET

TRUsox, without question, are the best grip socks on the market. That’s why you see countless pros wearing them on TV, NFL kickers to pro soccer players. Hands down, based on performance alone, I would choose TRUsox on any given day. But they come with some durability issues, so I would keep that in mind before purchasing a pair. With that being said, stay TRU to yourself 🙂 and it’s up to you whether you want to break the bank for the best socks on the market.
