With the first winter World Cup ever coming up, I decided to make predictions for it. Since my MLS predictions were right, I am hoping I can pick the winner again. This is going to be a very interesting World Cup, with it probably being the last for greats like Messi, Ronaldo, Modric, Suarez, Silva, and many more. So, with no further ado, here we goo………………
Group Stage
Group A
Qatar
Ecuador
Senegal
Netherlands
Winner: Senegal
Runner Up: Netherlands
Even without Sadio Mane, Senegal, the African champions, are strong enough to hold off Louis Van Gaal’s Netherlands team. I can’t see the hosts or Ecuador making it past the group stage, as they are only the 50th and 44th best in the world respectively.
Group B
England
USA
Iran
Wales
Winner: England
Runner Up: USA
This is a relatively straightforward pick. England is obviously the best team in the group, with the likes of Phil Foden, Harry Kane, and Mason Mount. I’m going to be biased and pick my favorite team: the USA to advance. I think the difference between Wales and the US is going to be the high-energy midfield of the United States.
Group C
Argentina
Poland
Mexico
Saudi Arabia
Winner: Argentina
Runner Up: Poland
Honestly, there is no way that Argentina doesn’t advance from the group stage. They’re just too good and that combined with the potent attack of Julian Alvarez, Angel di Maria, and of course, Leo Messi, will lead to the Argentinians advancing. I’m picking Poland to advance because Robert Lewandowski will take any chance he gets in the box, and Mexico is struggling right now.
Group D
France
Australia
Denmark
Tunisia
Winner: Denmark
Runner Up: France
Denmark is the most balanced team in this group, with a great defense, elite midfield, and amazing attack. France is potent in attack, but they are really inconsistent.
Group E
Spain
Germany
Japan
Costa Rica
Winner: Spain
Runner Up: Japan
You’re probably wondering what happened to Germany. While they have the best young player in the game in Jamal Musiala, the rest of their attack is not clinical. Spain, while also not have any clinical attacking players, have one of the best midfields in Europe with Pedri and Gavi. And Japan, with the in-form Daichi Kamada who will be able to carry them to the knockout stage.
Group F
Belgium
Canada
Morocco
Croatia
Winner: Belgium
Runner Up: Croatia
In the last world cup for Belgium’s Golden Generation, they are going to have all the pressure on them. But with Kevin de Bruyne, they should be able to advance to the knockouts. Croatia has been a solid team for the last 4 years and they will advance. Sorry Alphonso Davies.
Group G
Brazil
Serbia
Switzerland
Cameroon
Winner: Brazil
Runner Up: Serbia
Brazil have the most forwards in this entire tournament with 9. That along with the class that is Thiago Silva will be enough to propel the Brazilians to the knockouts. Serbia have 2 great strikers in Luka Jovic and Alexander Mitrovic who will score enough to make it to the next round.
Group H
Portugal
Uruguay
Korea
Ghana
Winner: Portugal
Runner Up: Korea
Portugal has the talent to win this group. With stars like Ronaldo, Rafael Leao, and Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese should be able to propel themselves to the knockout stage. And Korea is a darkhorse to make it to the next round. Even though Heung-Min Son hasn’t been in great form this season, there is nothing that makes players perform better than the World Cup.
